Common Questions About
Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) for Weight Loss
Discover the benefits of low dose naltrexone for effective and sustainable medical weight loss solutions.
How does LDN work?
LDN blocks opioid receptors for a short time, which causes the body to boost endorphin production. Higher endorphin levels can help balance appetite, mood, and even pain. For weight loss, LDN may curb strong urges to eat and make it easier to resist cravings.
Can LDN help with emotional eating and binge eating?
LDN affects brain chemicals linked to mood and reward. Many people notice less emotional eating and fewer binge episodes while taking LDN. It can help us feel more in control of our eating, especially when stress or strong feelings trigger overeating.
Who is a good candidate for LDN for weight loss?
LDN may fit individuals who often feel out of control with eating, struggle with binge eating, eat for comfort, or can’t seem to stop overeating. If you have tried other ways to manage these habits and still have trouble, LDN could be an option to discuss.
How long does it take for LDN to start working?
We often see some changes within a few weeks. Some will notice early benefits in just days, while others might need several months to see steady results. Changes in appetite or eating habits can show up before weight loss becomes clear.
Are there other health issues LDN can help with?
Providers can sometimes use LDN to help with conditions like chronic pain, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and some autoimmune risks. It's also being looked at for easing anxiety, depression, and other mood issues.
What side effects could we have from LDN?
Most individuals will tolerate LDN well, but possible side effects include trouble sleeping, vivid dreams, headaches, or stomach upset. These often fade as you get used to the medicine. Serious side effects are rare, but you should always let your provider know about any new or worse symptoms.
Who isn’t a good fit for LDN?
LDN isn’t right for people who take opioid pain medicine, as it blocks the action of those drugs. Those with certain liver conditions, or pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, should be extra careful. You will need to talk with your provider about your medical history to make sure LDN is a safe option.
